Field Trip to Utö

Rock-Analysis part I
The last ten days I spent with 5 other students and a nice british prof on Utö. Its a small ile next to Stockholm. We had fascinating days with analyzing rocks.. pffff. Hundreds of outcrops, deformations, foldings, injections, metamorphosis, extrusions, reworking etc.
BUT 10 days with 10 hours of rockanalyzis are definitly toooo much! Now I'm back and not angry about it at all.
The pictures look like on holiday, but it was no holiday at all.
We lived in a nice small cottage and cooked for ourselves. We walked 10 km per day at least and enjoyed almost every day the sun and the freezing cold wind from the sea (average temperature 10° plus icy wind). Just the last day was chill out day because the prof left us alone. He had to go back earlier :)
And what a luck in ten days the next fieldcourse starts...
I hope it will get a little bit more exciting becaust the students from Lund will join us. Jucheee!

The sunset is by the way cought at 22.03h :) And at 2 in the morning you can already/still see a shine on the horizont.

Valbourg 2007

After two wonderful long days with seeing sunrise Valbourg day was here! Not tired at all (after 1 hour of sleep) we started the day as its ought to be with champagner- breakfast. -not the best at 7 in the morning, but if the tradition says so..- At nine we started squeezing ourselves into the wetsuits and styled ourselves up as good as possile. Markus was a babybird on the other boat.

We looked like rambos with our beerbelly-wetsute-lifejacket-T-shirt bodies.
It was 90 boats that tried to pass two steep waterfalls with lots of barriers in between. Half of the boats got destroyed after the first waterfall, BUT we made it, of course, till the end.

In the end we went for a refreshment swimming in the river. 10° with wetsuit are not that cold.. surpisingly.
In the afternoon the rector of the University said welcome to the spring and suddenly 5000 Students ran to the nations to spray around with champangner. (the swedes call the cheap sparkling crap champagner)

Lunch and fika were held in the Economicum-Park where about 7000 students made the biggest mess I've ever seen.

We went back to Flogsta and everyone who was able to dance danced and had BBQ till he/she was so drunk that they went home.
Valbourg- thats a tradition, and that you cant really buy alcohol at this special day, and that the university is totally closed for this reason.
It was a great day (or shall I say great 4 days) and as soon as I woke up I had to pack my 7 Zwetschken for the Field course in Utö.
